The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) has announced that internationally acclaimed Mexican actress and Academy Award nominee Yalitza Aparicio will receive the Georgia Latino Film Alliance Icon Award during the 15th Annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (GALIFF XV), scheduled for September 30 through October 4, 2026, at the Fox Theatre in Atlanta, Georgia.
The GALFA Icon Award recognizes individuals whose careers, influence, and international presence have significantly contributed to the visibility and advancement of Latino culture in film and entertainment. Aparicio, known for her breakthrough role in Alfonso Cuarón's Roma, has become a powerful symbol of cultural representation and Latino pride. Her impact extends far beyond the screen, bringing greater visibility to Mexican and Latino talent and inspiring audiences across borders.
Aparicio's performance in Roma earned her an Academy Award nomination for Best Actress, placing her on one of the world's most prestigious cinematic stages. For fifteen years, GALIFF and GALFA have worked to create opportunities for Latino filmmakers, actors, producers, students, and entertainment professionals while building bridges between Georgia's film industry and the international Latino creative community.
The award will be presented during GALIFF XV Opening Night on September 30, 2026, at the historic Fox Theatre in Atlanta. The festival will continue with film screenings across Atlanta from October 1–4, 2026, featuring a diverse lineup of films that celebrate Latino stories and filmmakers.
