In a landmark achievement for Vietnam's urban development, Vinhomes Green Paradise - Can Gio has officially received the Interim Custom ISO 37122 Smart City Certification from the World Council on City Data (WCCD). This certification, announced on August 5, 2026, positions the mega urban project as a pioneer in aligning with international smart city standards, setting a new benchmark for sustainable development globally.
The certification process, based on the globally recognized ISO 37122 standard, involved a comprehensive assessment conducted by WCCD. The framework was specifically customized for greenfield developments, evaluating the project's progress in design, planning, and development strategy. Dr. Patricia McCarney, President & CEO of WCCD, highlighted the significance: "This WCCD Interim Custom ISO 37122 Smart City Certification recognizes Vinhomes' long-term vision and commitment to developing a smart, sustainable, and future-ready urban model. The project is now equipped with a powerful baseline of data designed to propel success, providing a strong foundation for year-over-year monitoring of development goals in smart urban governance, infrastructure, technology adoption, and sustainability." She added that this certification is a global first for greenfield developments, setting a new precedent for cities worldwide.
Vinhomes Green Paradise benefits from a unique geographical setting, overlooking the Can Gio Sea and adjacent to the UNESCO-recognized Can Gio Mangrove Biosphere Reserve, which spans over 75,000 hectares. The development covers 2,870 hectares with a construction density of only 16%, reflecting a commitment to preserving natural ecosystems. Under its enhanced ESG++ model, the project focuses on five pillars: Environment, Social, Governance, Regeneration, and Climate Adaptation. Upon full operation, the entire urban management system will be greened, with goals to utilize 100% clean electricity from renewable sources and achieve 100% net-zero emission transportation.
To support these ambitious targets, a Forest Regeneration and Climate Adaptation Fund will be established to finance research, restoration, and long-term resilience initiatives, with a key focus on regenerating the Can Gio mangrove ecosystem. This aligns with Ho Chi Minh City's climate adaptation strategy and underscores the project's dedication to biodiversity conservation.
Mr. Chulse Oh, Head of AX Group at Korea Management Association Consultants (KMAC), commented on the milestone: "The award of the WCCD Interim Custom ISO 37122 Smart City Certification marks an important milestone in realizing the vision of a world-class smart city in Vietnam. KMAC will continue to support the project in developing smart city solutions and implementation strategies."
The certification follows the official launch of the Smart City Certification Project in March 2026, in partnership with WCCD, Standardized Urban Metrics (SUM), and KMAC. This interim certification represents the first major milestone in assessing and refining criteria for a comprehensive smart city model aligned with international standards.
Vinhomes Green Paradise has also become the first Official Participant in the "7 Wonders of the Future Cities" campaign initiated by New7Wonders, further cementing its pioneering vision. This recognition reinforces the project's commitment to advancing a smart and sustainable urban model that meets international standards, positioning it as a benchmark future city for the region and the world.
