VERAXA Advances VXA-222 bsADC Program and Expands Patent Portfolio

VERAXA Biotech (NASDAQ: VRXA) has announced that its VXA-222 bispecific antibody-drug conjugate (bsADC) program has moved beyond the discovery phase and into the next stage of development. This milestone follows the successful completion of the discovery portion of the company's collaboration with OmniAb Inc., which began in May 2025 (https://nnw.fm/nIprz). With the discovery work finished, VERAXA will now focus on engineering the final therapeutic candidate by leveraging the antibody binders identified through the collaboration and combining them with its proprietary antibody engineering, linker, and conjugation technologies.

Although VXA-222 is not based on VERAXA's BiTAC platform, it represents one of the company's more advanced development programs. The program underscores VERAXA's commitment to developing next-generation antibody-based cancer therapies, particularly for difficult-to-treat cancers. The company's pipeline includes bispecific antibody-drug conjugates, T-cell engagers, and other engineered antibody formats designed to address significant unmet medical needs in oncology.

In parallel with the VXA-222 advancement, VERAXA has expanded its intellectual property portfolio with its first BiTAC-related patent filings, alongside additional patents supporting conjugation chemistry, payloads, and antibody technologies. The company now holds more than 50 granted owned or exclusively licensed patents across 26 patent families in 14 countries, with newly filed applications expected to extend protection into at least 2047. This robust IP position is crucial for securing the company's innovative approaches and maintaining a competitive edge in the rapidly evolving biotech landscape.

The advancement of VXA-222 and the expansion of the patent portfolio signal VERAXA's continued progress in building a diversified oncology pipeline. By focusing on both bispecific ADCs and T-cell engagers, the company aims to harness the immune system and targeted delivery mechanisms to improve treatment outcomes for patients with hard-to-treat cancers. The successful completion of the discovery phase with OmniAb is a testament to the collaborative efforts and the potential of the programs in development.

Investors and industry observers will be watching closely as VERAXA moves VXA-222 toward preclinical validation and eventual clinical trials. The company's ability to integrate novel technologies and protect its intellectual property will be key factors in its long-term success. As VERAXA continues to advance its pipeline, it remains focused on delivering innovative therapies that could make a meaningful difference in cancer care.
