The report highlights the potential for grid upgrades to enable greater integration of renewable energy sources, such as wind and solar, which are often located far from demand centers. By improving cross-border transmission capacity, countries can balance supply and demand more effectively, reducing the need for fossil fuel backup and curtailment of renewable generation.
