The purchased gas cost rate is a pass-through charge that reflects the actual cost UGI pays for natural gas in the wholesale market. This rate is adjusted quarterly to reflect market conditions, and any changes are subject to review by the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission. UGI does not earn a profit on the natural gas commodity itself; the company's revenue comes from distribution and other services.
According to UGI, the projected increase in December is based on forward-looking market indicators that suggest higher demand and potential supply constraints during the winter months. The company encouraged customers to prepare for higher bills later in the year and to consider energy efficiency measures or budget billing plans to manage costs. UGI also reminded customers that assistance programs are available for those who qualify.
