Trilogy Metals Update on Proposed U.S. Department of War Investment

Trilogy Metals Inc. (NYSE American: TMQ) (TSX: TMQ) has issued an update regarding its previously announced proposed strategic equity investment of approximately US$35.6 million from the U.S. Department of War (DOW). The company confirmed that discussions with the DOW are ongoing and that the letter of intent signed in October 2025 remains in effect as both parties continue to advance negotiations. This investment is intended to support continued exploration and development activities at the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects in northwestern Alaska, a region recognized for its significant mineral potential.

The importance of this investment cannot be overstated. The Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects are part of the Ambler Mining District, one of the world's richest and most prospective copper-dominant districts. The district hosts polymetallic volcanogenic massive sulfide (VMS) deposits containing copper, zinc, lead, gold, and silver, as well as carbonate replacement deposits with high-grade copper and cobalt. With global demand for copper and critical minerals rising due to the transition to clean energy and electric vehicles, securing domestic sources of these metals is a strategic priority for the United States. The DOW's potential involvement underscores the federal government's recognition of the project's national significance in reducing reliance on foreign mineral supplies.

Trilogy Metals holds a 50% interest in Ambler Metals LLC, which owns 100% of the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects. The other 50% is held by South32, a globally diversified mining and metals company, which formed a joint venture with Trilogy in December 2019. The project's land package spans approximately 190,929 hectares and includes two primary deposits: the Arctic VMS deposit and the Bornite carbonate replacement deposit. Exploration efforts have been concentrated on these targets, which have shown promising results.

The company has also established an agreement with NANA Regional Corporation, an Alaska Native Corporation, to ensure that exploration and potential development are conducted in cooperation with local communities, respecting subsistence livelihoods. This collaborative approach is critical for the project's social license to operate and long-term success.

The proposed investment from the DOW would provide a significant boost to the project's financing, enabling accelerated exploration and development. It also signals strong government backing, which could de-risk the project for other investors and partners. As the world seeks to secure supply chains for critical minerals, the Upper Kobuk Mineral Projects could position Alaska as a key supplier, enhancing U.S. economic and national security.
