BenGlassLaw, a Northern Virginia personal injury law firm, has announced that Sydney Lojek is the winner of the 2026 BenGlassLaw Referee and Umpire Leadership Scholarship. The $2,500 award will support Lojek as she begins her studies at Northwestern University this fall.
The scholarship recognizes students with referee experience who have applied their skills in professional settings. Lojek distinguished herself by addressing a local soccer referee shortage, demonstrating the leadership and mentorship abilities that impressed the selection committee. Her proactive approach not only helped her community but also honed skills that will serve her throughout her career.
Lojek's dedication to officiating is expected to continue during her college years. She has already explored youth soccer leagues in Evanston, Illinois, and is eager to mentor young athletes, helping them build confidence on the field. Her commitment to community service and sportsmanship aligns with the values championed by Ben Glass, the firm's founder, who has refereed youth and high school soccer for over 51 years.
In addition to her involvement in soccer, Lojek plans to pursue a professional degree. While she is undecided on a major, she is considering economics, legal studies, and the pre-medical track at Northwestern. Her balanced approach to academics and extracurricular activities reflects a maturity that will benefit her future endeavors.
"Refereeing has been such a huge part of my life that I cannot imagine simply stopping when I go to college," Lojek said. Her passion for the sport and her desire to give back to the community are central to her identity.
BenGlassLaw is proud to support young leaders like Lojek. The firm, known for representing clients in personal injury, auto accident, and long-term disability claims, extends its best wishes to Lojek as she embarks on this new chapter. The scholarship underscores the firm's commitment to fostering leadership and community engagement among young people.
