SS Innovations International (NASDAQ: SSII) announced that its subsidiary, the SS International Centre for Robotics Surgery (SSICRS), has graduated the inaugural class of its Cardiac Robotic Surgery Training program. The five-day course brought together 33 participants from seven countries and 16 international faculty members for classroom instruction, live surgical demonstrations and hands-on training using the company’s SSi Mantra surgical robotic system.
This milestone matters because it marks a significant step in expanding access to robotic-assisted cardiac surgery. By training surgeons from multiple countries, SS Innovations is addressing the global shortage of skilled robotic surgeons, which is a key barrier to wider adoption of this minimally invasive technology. SSICRS plans to expand its educational offerings through additional condensed training programs covering multiple surgical specialties, including urology, gynecology, thoracic, colorectal, gastrointestinal and general surgery. The company said the training center combines modern lecture facilities, advanced simulation labs, tele-proctoring and online learning modules to support surgeon education and the broader adoption of robotic-assisted surgery. This comprehensive approach could accelerate the diffusion of robotic surgery techniques globally, potentially improving patient outcomes and reducing healthcare costs over time.
The SSi Mantra system, which was used in the training, is designed to be more affordable and accessible than existing robotic platforms, which could make robotic surgery available to a larger segment of the global population. By graduating this first class, SS Innovations demonstrates that its training model is viable, which may encourage more hospitals and surgeons to invest in the technology.
