ATLANTA — The Georgia Latino Film Alliance (GALFA) will honor veteran actor, writer, director, and producer Roberto Sanchez with the Excellence in Filmmaking Award at the 15th Annual Georgia Latino International Film Festival (#GALIFF2026). The awards ceremony is scheduled for September 30, 2026, at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre, a highlight of the city’s Hispanic Heritage Month celebrations.
Sanchez, a Cuban-born actor raised in Miami, served 11 years in the U.S. Navy before forging a Hollywood career that spans more than 150 film and television credits over 25 years. He gained recognition with his breakout role in John Singleton’s 2 Fast 2 Furious and has since delivered acclaimed performances in Apple TV+’s Palm Royale and Cape Fear. His recent television work includes recurring roles in Netflix’s Running Point and Dexter: Original Sin on Showtime/Paramount+.
Beyond acting, Sanchez has expanded into writing, directing, and producing, focusing on character-driven stories. His upcoming romantic drama The Café explores themes of love, timing, and regret. GALFA CEO and Founder Dr. Jose Marquez praised Sanchez as an embodiment of resilience and self-determination, noting that he has used his platform to break down barriers and mentor emerging talent. Yvette Moise, President and Co-Founder of GALFA, emphasized that Sanchez is an industry force actively creating career pathways for Latino and Afro-Latino creators behind the camera.
The festival, in its 15th year, celebrates a “Quinceañera” anniversary with five days of films, panels, and cultural events. The opening gala will also mark 150 years of Mexican filmmaking.
