In an open letter addressed to the architects of the global future convening at the World Economic Forum in Davos, author Sajid Khan challenges the premise that intelligence alone can solve the world's deepening fractures. Khan, founder of The 4th R Foundation, argues that despite the gathering of the world's greatest minds and most powerful figures year after year, the world becomes more fractured, violent, and confused. The root cause, he asserts, is a fundamental misunderstanding of the human brain.
"You are trying to solve a biological problem with economic tools," Khan writes. "You are building high-speed rails and digital infrastructures, but you are ignoring the broken infrastructure inside the human skull." He diagnoses a global rise of what he calls 'Smart Monsters'—leaders with high intellect but emotionally blocked brains, whose high IQ makes them more dangerous rather than wise.
Khan introduces a scientific distinction between the 'Mind' and the 'Brain,' which he says global institutions have missed. The Brain, he explains, is a biological engine that manufactures emotions like fear and anger, while the Mind is the Self-Image, the Driver that decides and plans. Current education systems, he argues, polish the Mind with facts and logic but ignore the Brain, leaving it full of emotional sludge from childhood trauma and unhealed insults. When a crisis hits, the emotional engine overpowers the logical driver, allowing the 'Smart Monster' to take the wheel.
Khan proposes a solution rooted in science: Emotional Brain Shunting (EBS), a method to physically clear emotional blockages and quantify a leader's 'Emotional Altitude.' He calls for the creation of a new global economic sector—the Wisdom Industry—which would include Wisdom Spas, Brain Education, and new professions like brain therapists and upbringing coaches. "To fix a machine, you must first understand how it works," Khan states. "And for centuries, we have misunderstood the most important machine in existence: the human head."
The 4th R Foundation, based in Ridgefield Park, NJ, has been researching this approach for over 50 years, holding U.S. patents on quantifying the mind and publishing 217 books, including 'A Scientific World Order' and 'Smart Monsters.' The Foundation seeks partners to launch the First Global Brain Health Summit in 2026, aiming to establish the Wisdom Industry as a new engine for global growth. Khan invites Davos leaders to pivot their resources toward this industry, arguing that a healed, wise brain creates wealth, health, and peace, while a broken brain destroys it. "The world does not need another summit of speeches. It needs a summit of healing," he concludes.
