Olu of Warri and Queen Consort Launch 'Iam Itsekiri' Movement to Unite Global Community

His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, and Her Majesty Olori Atuwatse III, Mama Iwere, have introduced a groundbreaking initiative called 'Iam Itsekiri' to connect Itsekiri people across the globe. This cultural identity movement, backed by the Palace of the Warri Kingdom, aims to strengthen the bonds of heritage, pride, and unity among the Itsekiri, both at home and in the diaspora.

The initiative includes a media-driven cultural campaign and a dedicated mobile application that will serve as a digital gathering place for the community. The app, soon to be available on the Apple Store and Google Play Store, will provide users with updates from the Palace, facilitate connections among Itsekiris worldwide, and offer cultural content that promotes the language, traditions, customs, and cuisine of the Itsekiri people.

Speaking on the vision, His Majesty emphasized that the name 'Itsekiri' means 'blessing surrounds us,' and the platform is built around this central truth. 'To say I am Itsekiri is to make an active declaration that one belongs to a people that blessing follows,' he stated. The movement is not just about preserving heritage but is a strategic effort to project the values and blessings of the Itsekiri people on a global stage.

The movement warmly welcomes three groups into its fold: those born Itsekiri, those who have become part of the family through marriage, and friends of Itsekiri who identify with the community's values and ideals. This inclusive approach broadens participation while maintaining the cultural pride and heritage of the kingdom.

To amplify the movement, the #IAmItsekiri Challenge encourages participants to share personal stories, testimonies, and experiences that reflect their Itsekiri identity. This challenge is designed to foster a sense of belonging and pride, creating a vibrant online community that transcends geographical boundaries.

The initiative has been described as 'not nostalgia, but strategy,' highlighting its forward-looking nature. By leveraging digital tools and social media, the Palace aims to ensure that the Itsekiri identity remains strong and influential in an increasingly connected world. The launch of the Iam Itsekiri app and the accompanying challenge marks a significant step in uniting the Itsekiri people around their shared heritage and values.
