MicroSectors Launches 3x Leveraged ETN MNGU to Amplify AI Trading

The artificial intelligence revolution is generating frequent updates that can serve as catalysts for traders, and a new exchange-traded note aims to help sophisticated investors capitalize on that momentum. The MicroSectors 3× Long MANGOS+ ex Private Companies ETN (NYSE: MNGU) provides 3x long exposure to the daily performance of the NYSE MaNGoS+ Index, a rules-based, equal-weighted benchmark of 10 U.S.-listed companies at the center of the AI economy. Launched in August by REX Shares and issued by the Bank of Montreal, the ETN is designed as a daily trading tool rather than a buy-and-hold investment because leverage resets daily, meaning returns over periods longer than one day will differ from three times the index return. Losses compound in the same way gains do, and a choppy, sideways market can produce losses due to the daily reset mechanism—an effect that increases with index volatility and holding period length.

The index itself is concentrated, holding 10 constituents equally weighted at 10% each on each quarterly reconstitution. That concentration can make the basket more volatile than a broadly diversified index, and any single constituent can materially affect the index level—a risk amplified by the 3x leverage factor. Six named anchors head the index, though Anthropic PBC and OpenAI Group PBC are private as of the index launch date and therefore ineligible for inclusion; they seed the supply chain search but can only be included after listing if they meet eligibility requirements. The ETN only includes common stocks, ADRs and GDRs listed on major U.S. exchanges.

To qualify for the index, anchor companies must carry a float-adjusted market capitalization of $5 billion or more, a six-month average daily traded value of $100 million or more, a free float of 5% or more, a positive trailing 12-month price-to-sales ratio, and a minimum trading history. The index also considers customers or suppliers of its major AI anchors, ranking candidates by AI-related revenue exposure—the money a company makes from selling AI products, services, or infrastructure such as AI-optimized servers, GPUs, networking gear, and cloud-based AI services. The highest-ranked companies are selected to bring the index to 10 constituents, each receiving an equal 10% weighting at quarterly rebalancing; if too few qualify, the threshold can be lowered to reach the target.

For traders with a short-term bullish view on the companies driving the AI boom, MNGU groups a handful of major AI-related businesses into one trading vehicle, potentially magnifying gains when the underlying index moves in the right direction while also magnifying losses when it moves against the trader. The product is not suitable for everyone; it is a trading instrument for investors who understand the risks and are prepared to track it over the trading day.
