GLENDALE, CA – The Martial Arts History Museum is set to unveil its new permanent Armenian Exhibit this Saturday, June 27, at 4:00 PM, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its Glendale location, 201 N. Brand Blvd., B100. Sponsored in part by US Armenia, the event marks a significant expansion of the museum’s mission to showcase martial arts as a global cultural phenomenon.
The grand opening will feature a live Armenian martial arts demonstration and speeches from City of Glendale dignitaries. Light refreshments will be provided. The museum, founded in 1999, relocated to Glendale two years ago and has since broadened its focus from Asian martial arts to include traditions from around the world. Rather than emphasizing physical combat, the museum explores the art, history, culture, and traditions behind martial disciplines.
The permanent Armenian Exhibit represents a milestone in the museum’s efforts to celebrate diverse cultures. According to Michael Matsuda, museum director, the exhibit aims to educate visitors about the unique martial arts heritage of Armenia, which includes traditional wrestling and sword-fighting techniques. The exhibit provides context on how Armenian martial arts have evolved and their role in the country’s cultural identity.
