The Hong Kong Tech Pavilion at Viva Technology (VivaTech) 2026 successfully concluded in Paris, showcasing innovations from 24 local enterprises and institutions to global investors, according to the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC). The pavilion, hosted by the HKTDC in partnership with the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in Brussels (Brussels ETO) and other supporting organizations, aimed to connect Hong Kong start-ups with European opportunities and deepen international collaboration networks.
Several participating companies achieved significant outcomes. Robocore Technology Limited, a developer of open-platform service robot solutions, is negotiating with French multinational JCDecaux to provide 1,000 robots for marketing campaigns. This connection originated at last year's VivaTech pavilion. CEO Lim Long-hei noted that leveraging these business ties could help achieve rapid growth in Europe and beyond. LeafIoT Technology Limited signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Lecco Campus of Politecnico di Milano to collaborate on talent cultivation and technological innovation in smart tree monitoring. Managing Director Chan Pak-wan expressed hope to extend Hong Kong's industry-university-research model into Europe and achieve five- to ten-fold business growth.
Formwork IO, specializing in carbon-negative construction materials, was selected as a top 30 finalist for VivaTech's "Tech for Change" Award, recognizing start-ups that leverage technology for positive environmental or social impact. Additionally, PointFit Technology and Robocore Technology were chosen from global start-ups to demonstrate their solutions at VivaTech's Discovery Stage. These achievements underscore Hong Kong's competitiveness in health technology, artificial intelligence, and robotics.
Chris Lo, HKTDC's Regional Director for Europe, Central Asia & Israel, stated that the pavilion facilitated multiple cross-border collaborations, with some outcomes stemming from connections made in previous years. He emphasized the HKTDC's role in helping local start-ups build networks and expand into global markets.
During VivaTech, the HKTDC hosted seminars, pitching sessions, and networking events, including a thematic seminar on "Building Resilient Tech Ecosystems" on June 19. Shirley Yung, Special Representative for Hong Kong Economic & Trade Affairs to the European Union, highlighted Hong Kong's advantages: top-tier research and talent, global capital pools, access to the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and strong global connectivity. A discussion session featuring HKSTP CEO Terry Wong and HKPC Chief Innovation Officer Yonghai Du elaborated on Hong Kong's innovation ecosystem and its role as a springboard for international markets.
The HKTDC's participation in VivaTech follows its involvement in CES 2026, MWC, and 4YFN earlier this year, demonstrating a concerted effort to connect local start-ups with global investors. The 10th VivaTech attracted participants from over 165 countries, with more than 15,000 start-ups and 200,000 visitors, underscoring its significance in the global tech ecosystem. The Hong Kong Tech Pavilion is a flagship initiative under the "Economic and Trade Express" in Europe, supported by the Brussels ETO, HKTDC, and InvestHK.
