HITN Media, the leading Spanish-language public media network in the United States, has announced the broadcast premiere of El Sueño Americano, a special Spanish-language edition of the award-winning documentary Amerigo: The Search for the American Dream. The program will air on Sunday, September 20, at 8:00 p.m. EDT/PDT on HITN TV and will be available on demand via the HITNGo digital streaming platform beginning that day. This premiere marks a significant moment for Hispanic audiences, as it brings a nuanced exploration of the American Dream directly to Spanish-speaking households during Hispanic Heritage Month.
The documentary, hosted by Emmy Award-winning producer, entrepreneur, and bestselling author David McCourt, asks a question that resonates across communities and generations: What does the American Dream look like today? McCourt spent two years traveling the country and speaking with more than 1,000 Americans from all walks of life, capturing a portrait of a nation in transition through stories of struggle, resilience, and optimism. The unscripted conversations reveal a country still working out what opportunity means today. Amid that search, new data points to nearly one in four new U.S. entrepreneurs being Hispanic or Latino, up from roughly one in ten twenty-five years ago. This statistic underscores that opportunity, while unevenly distributed, is being created and claimed—a development with profound implications for the nation's economic and social fabric.
That progress is just one thread in a much larger conversation. The special invites Hispanic audiences to engage in broad, nonpartisan dialogue about opportunity, family, work, belonging, and the future of the country. While the American Dream is experienced differently by every individual and family, its questions—and the hopes behind them—are shared by Americans of every background. By presenting these stories in Spanish, HITN ensures that these critical conversations are accessible to a community that is often underrepresented in mainstream media narratives. This matters because it empowers Hispanic viewers to see their own experiences reflected and to participate in shaping the national discourse.
As part of HITN’s Hispanic Heritage Month programming, the network will also feature a series of short, never-before-aired capsules filmed by the Amerigo crew. The exclusive capsules are drawn from Amerigo’s ongoing companion campaign, AD250.com, where over 5,000 Americans to date, more than a third Hispanic and Latino, have shared their video reflections of the American Dream. Airing throughout the month on HITN TV and available on the program’s dedicated digital hub, the capsules offer viewers additional Hispanic stories and perspectives connected to the themes of El Sueño Americano. This multi-platform approach amplifies Hispanic voices and reinforces the network’s commitment to cultural representation.
“When I set out to make Amerigo, I wanted to understand what the American Dream looks like today through the voices of people actually living it. What we found again and again is that Hispanic and Latino Americans are driving it. The idea that one in four new businesses in this country are being started by Hispanic and Latino entrepreneurs, up from one in ten a generation ago, is exactly what I hoped to capture when I set out to make this film,” said McCourt. His words highlight a shifting economic landscape where Hispanic entrepreneurship is a powerful engine of growth, challenging outdated stereotypes and reshaping the future of work.
“The stories of Hispanic and Latino Americans are an important part of the American story. Amerigo highlights their contributions and aspirations, making it a natural fit for HITN and our commitment to telling stories that reflect our community,” said Michael Nieves, president and CEO of HITN Media. This partnership between McCourt Entertainment and HITN signals a growing recognition of the Hispanic market’s influence and the demand for authentic, Spanish-language content that goes beyond entertainment to address substantive issues.
Directed by Adam Mason and co-produced by David and Julie McCourt of McCourt Entertainment, El Sueño Americano is adapted from Amerigo: The Search for the American Dream, which examines the evolving reality of the American Dream. The original film, presented by South Florida PBS and distributed nationally by American Public Television (APT), brings together unscripted interviews with everyday people and insights from notable voices to present a panoramic portrait of a country considering its future.
