Garuda Indonesia is offering 170,845 domestic roundtrip seats at no additional fare to eligible international passengers flying to Indonesia from 14 origin cities across 10 countries. The initiative, available for travel from 1 August to 30 November 2026, is designed to encourage travellers to explore multiple destinations within the archipelago, supporting longer stays and a broader distribution of tourism spending.
Under the Free Domestic Flight program, passengers holding roundtrip international tickets to Indonesia can add a domestic roundtrip journey as part of their itinerary. The program connects Garuda Indonesia's international network with domestic destinations, aiming to shift travel patterns beyond major gateways like Jakarta and Denpasar. The airline states that this move aligns with the spirit of #DiscoverMoreIndonesia, promoting multi-destination travel and enhancing the economic impact of each international arrival.
Garuda Indonesia Marketing Group Head Prina Eka Putri emphasized the strategic value of the program. "Indonesia offers far more than a single destination. By making onward domestic travel easier, we want international travellers to stay longer, explore more regions and experience more of what Indonesia has to offer," she said. The airline believes that integrating international and domestic connectivity provides a differentiated proposition in a competitive regional tourism market.
The program also benefits the Indonesian diaspora, migrant workers, and citizens returning from overseas, offering them seamless connectivity to their home regions or other destinations. Agny Gallus Pratama, Garuda Indonesia Southeast Asia Branch Manager and Head of the Free Domestic Flight Project Management Office, highlighted the economic rationale behind the seat allocation. "The opportunity is not only to bring more travellers into Indonesia, but to enable each arrival to reach more destinations," he explained. "When visitors travel further and stay longer, the economic impact can extend to hotels, restaurants, local transportation, tourism operators and MSMEs across the regions."
By linking international traffic with its domestic network, Garuda Indonesia expects to disperse visitor flows and tourism spending more evenly across the country. The initiative supports the airline's competitiveness by leveraging its extensive domestic network to offer travellers easier access to multiple destinations within a single itinerary. This strategy aims to create greater value from each international arrival and enable more destinations and local tourism ecosystems to benefit from increased visitor movement.
