National flag carrier Garuda Indonesia is advancing its service transformation with the introduction of a piece-based checked baggage policy, known as the Piece Concept. The new policy applies to tickets issued on or after September 1, 2026, and offers passengers greater clarity and enhanced value, with allowances up to two pieces weighing a maximum of 32 kilograms each, totaling up to 64 kilograms, depending on route, travel class, and fare category.
Under the previous Weight Concept, allowances were based on combined weight; now, they are determined by the number of pieces and maximum weight per piece. For domestic Economy Class, the allowance increases from 20 kg to 23 kg per piece, while Business and First Class rise from 30 kg and 40 kg respectively to 64 kg. On international routes, Economy Class allowance increases from 30 kg to 46 kg (two pieces at 23 kg each), and Business and First Class from 40 kg and 50 kg to 64 kg. Some passengers may receive up to 34 kg additional allowance.

Passengers with tickets issued before September 1, 2026, retain their original allowances.
