The fifth edition of the International Healthcare Week, organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), is set to take place from 11 to 31 May, positioning Hong Kong as a premier medical technology and investment hub. The event includes the Asia Summit on Global Health (ASGH) and the Hong Kong International Medical and Healthcare Fair (Medical Fair), running concurrently at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. The ASGH will be held on 11-12 May, while the Medical Fair runs from 11-13 May.
Sophia Chong, Executive Director of the HKTDC, emphasized the transformative changes in the medical landscape and Hong Kong's role as an ideal platform for innovation, leveraging its financial center status and research ecosystem. She noted that the events align with the National 15th Five-Year Plan, focusing on biopharmaceuticals, AI-empowered healthcare, silver economy, and traditional Chinese medicine modernization. The summit and fair aim to accelerate commercialization, facilitate business matching, and boost cross-border investment, reinforcing the 'Healthy China' initiative.
The ASGH, themed 'Fuelling Healthcare Breakthroughs,' will feature a Nobel Prize laureate and numerous health officials, experts, and investors. Keynote speakers include Prof Lo Chung-mau, Secretary of Health of the HKSAR government, and Prof Zeng Yixin, Vice Minister of the National Health Commission. Plenary sessions will cover pandemic preparedness and cross-sector collaboration, with speakers from organizations like the WHO Alliance for Health Policy and Systems Research and GSK.
The Medical Fair, themed 'Innovations Boosting Smart Health Experience,' will showcase 300 exhibitors from 10 countries, with a focus on MedTech, GeronTech, and Preventive Healthcare. Notable innovations include a smart health wearable integrating Chinese and Western medicine, an AR surgical platform for orthopedics, and a smart knee brace with AI and wearable technology. The fair will also host over 50 forums on topics like AI in mental health and gerontechnology demand.
The event will adopt an 'EXHIBITION+' hybrid model, with a physical fair and online 'Click2Match' platform from 4 May to 20 May. Hong Kong's unique position as a superconnector between mainland China and the world is expected to drive global health collaborations and investment opportunities.
