The Cultural Association 'The Way of the Holy Grail' is organizing a cultural cycle that will travel through seven municipalities in the province of Teruel from September 11 to 19, 2026. The initiative, subsidized by the Government of Aragon under Order ECD/500/2026 and supported by the participating municipalities, aims to bring the population closer to the historical and cultural heritage of each locality and to the route of The Way of the Holy Grail.
The cycle will feature conferences in Báguena, San Martín del Río, Fuentes Claras, Caminreal, San Agustín, Albentosa, and La Puebla de Valverde, all towns linked to the route. Under the common theme "The Way of the Holy Grail and its passage through [municipality]," the sessions will be led by Joaquín Poquet of ArtCare Consulting and will explore each area's historical and monumental heritage—churches, castles, hermitages, bridges, or archaeological sites—within the context of the route. This approach distinguishes documented historical heritage from cultural interpretation, avoiding unfounded attributions.
The significance of this cycle lies in its dual focus: it not only disseminates knowledge about The Way of the Holy Grail but also valorizes the cultural heritage of small towns, reinforcing local identity and territorial structuring. By bringing cultural activities directly to these municipalities, the initiative fosters community participation and highlights the role of Aragon in the historical narrative of the Holy Grail. The tradition linked to the Holy Chalice, currently kept in the Cathedral of Valencia, places a fundamental part of its history in Aragonese territory, particularly in Huesca and the Pyrenees, before its arrival in Valencia, where documentary evidence of its deposit dates back to 1437.
The Cultural Association 'El Camino del Santo Grial' has been working since 2002 to create, consolidate, and disseminate a land route connecting the Monastery of San Juan de la Peña with the Cathedral of Valencia, crossing numerous Aragonese municipalities. The September conferences contribute to this mission by promoting the cultural resources of the territory. Moreover, the cycle is part of the Cultural Network in Aragon and is subsidized by the Government of Aragon through Order ECD/500/2026, aimed at developing cultural activities in the territory.
The work on this historical and cultural route also has an international projection. The International Association Cultural Route The Way of the Holy Grail in Europe is working on the European dimension of the project and on the process aimed at presenting The Way of the Holy Grail as a candidate for Cultural Route of the Council of Europe. This perspective situates the municipalities within a broader cultural narrative, where local heritage is an essential piece. The cycle starts from the local scale: getting to know the territory, documenting it, disseminating it, and making the local population participate in its heritage and its belonging to the Camino.
With over two decades of work, the association also manages the official pilgrimage credential of The Way of the Holy Grail, now in its fourth edition, with more than 31,000 accumulated units produced. The new programme in Teruel continues a line of work that links research, dissemination, heritage, territory, and local participation, placing the municipalities as protagonists of the cultural construction of the itinerary.
