Clym Environmental Services, LLC officially opened its new processing facility in Frostburg, Maryland, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on August 27, 2026. The event, attended by over 100 guests including elected officials and community leaders, highlighted the facility's innovative use of ozone treatment technology and solar power. The company's proprietary process converts biohazardous material into safe, reusable materials while reducing greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional thermal treatment methods.
The ceremony featured remarks from state and regional leaders, underscoring the facility's significance. Juli McCoy, President & CEO of the Allegany County Chamber of Commerce, noted that Clym Environmental will create living-wage jobs and its proximity to Frostburg State University makes it a perfect fit for the Frostburg Business Park. Secretary Harry Coker of the Maryland Department of Commerce, Allegany County Commissioner Bill Atkinson, and Kelly Schulz, CEO of the Maryland Tech Council, also spoke, emphasizing the facility's role in advancing sustainable waste management.
The event also included a certificate of congressional recognition presented on behalf of Congresswoman April McClain Delaney. Kendall Abruzzese, Western Maryland Outreach Coordinator, delivered the certificate, praising Clym's pioneering work in environmentally friendly waste management biotechnology and its contribution to workforce opportunities and economic growth in Western Maryland.
Once fully operational, the facility will use ozone generated from ambient air and powered by solar energy, a design that aligns with Clym's commitment to sustainability. This approach is particularly relevant for the life sciences, healthcare, and pharmaceutical industries, which produce biohazardous waste requiring careful handling. The solar installation, provided by Energy Select, was showcased during the event, illustrating the facility's energy efficiency.
The opening follows Clym's recognition as the Life Sciences Innovation of the Year winner at the Maryland Tech Council's 2026 ICON Awards. This accolade highlights the company's innovative approach and its potential to set new standards in waste management. The facility supports Clym's growth across the eastern United States and reinforces its role in advancing sustainable practices.
