Canamera Energy Metals Corp. (CSE: EMET) (OTCQB: EMETF) (FSE: 4LF0) announced it has signed a non-binding letter of intent to acquire an option to earn a 100% interest in the Patos ionic clay rare earth element project in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The project covers approximately 15,979 hectares and is considered prospective for ionic clay REE mineralization, a type of deposit that can be processed with lower environmental impact compared to hard rock mining.
The agreement contemplates a two-stage process. Initially, Canamera will conduct a due diligence auger drill program of up to 10 holes for C$20,000 to confirm the presence of ionic clay REE mineralization. If results are encouraging and the option is exercised, the company would be required to make aggregate payments of C$228,000 in cash and issue C$307,800 in common shares. The vendor will retain a 2% net smelter return royalty, with a buyback right allowing Canamera to reduce the royalty to 1% for C$228,000.
This acquisition aligns with Canamera's strategy to build a portfolio of district-scale rare earth and critical metals opportunities across the Americas. The company already holds several projects, including the Mantle project in British Columbia, the Garrow REE project in Northern Ontario, the Schryburt Lake rare earth and niobium project in Ontario, the Iron Hills critical and rare earth project in Colorado, USA, and the Turvolândia and São Sepé REE projects in Brazil. By targeting underexplored regions with strong geological signatures and supportive jurisdictions, Canamera aims to generate high-conviction, first-mover exploration targets.
The Patos project adds to the company's growing presence in Brazil, a country known for its significant rare earth potential. Ionic clay deposits are particularly attractive due to their relatively low processing costs and the ability to produce a mixed rare earth carbonate product. The global demand for rare earth elements, essential for electric vehicles, wind turbines, and defense applications, continues to rise, making new sources of supply strategically important.
