The Boho Foundation has announced that director and producer Salman Alam Khan will helm its new docuseries, Unfolding Identity, which captures deeply personal narratives of migration, belonging, and self-discovery from Sikh and South Asian communities. The series traces how individuals navigate questions of memory, identity, and cultural continuity through a blend of poetic realism and journalistic rigor.
Each episode of Unfolding Identity functions as a cinematic portrait, offering an immersive account of lived experience. Guiding the creative vision is Salman Alam Khan, whose dual expertise as director and producer bridges artistry and precision. Khan is known for developing visual narratives that resonate emotionally while maintaining historical and cultural integrity. His approach unites intimate storytelling with meticulous production oversight, ensuring that every frame reflects authenticity and empathy.
Supporting this vision is Executive Producer Kamal Sandhu, whose strategic leadership and commitment to cultural storytelling help elevate the project's scope while preserving its creative integrity. Under Khan's direction, the production embraces a collaborative process rooted in research, dialogue, and creative trust. Each episode—filmed across Los Angeles, Seattle, Toronto, New York, and beyond—threads together interviews, archival materials, music, and vérité moments that illuminate layered perspectives of identity. Episodes include conversations with acclaimed figures such as historian Amardeep Singh, actor Rizwan Manji, musician Ali Sethi, and Grammy-nominated rapper Raja Kumari, alongside community voices shaping South Asian culture in the diaspora today.
From conception through post-production, Khan oversees every phase, working closely with cinematographer Austin Tremblay, editor Muhammad Kamran Fazal, and line producer Durva Nandapurkar to craft an emotionally grounded yet visually refined viewing experience. The Boho Foundation's production of Unfolding Identity continues its longstanding commitment to elevating narratives that celebrate diversity, cross-cultural empathy, and artistic excellence.
