The NonProfit Times has named Nancy Brown, chief executive officer of the American Heart Association, to its 29th annual Power and Influence Top 50 list, recognizing her as one of the most influential leaders in healthcare. This marks the 11th time Brown has received this honor, reflecting her enduring impact on the nonprofit sector and cardiovascular health. The recognition comes as the Association celebrates Brown’s 40 years of service, having joined the organization in 1986 in Michigan.
Brown ascended to the CEO role in 2008 and has since spearheaded initiatives that expanded the Association’s global influence in cardiovascular and brain health. Under her leadership, the organization accelerated scientific discovery, advanced quality improvement programs, and strengthened advocacy for healthier communities. Notable achievements include the launch of the Nation of Lifesavers initiative and the continued growth of Go Red for Women, which elevates women’s health. The American Heart Association is now the largest non-governmental funder of cardiovascular research in the United States, a position solidified through multi-million-dollar research initiatives that Brown helped launch.
