The American Heart Association, in collaboration with the National Football League, will offer Hands-Only CPR training to fans attending the Super Bowl Experience in San Francisco from Feb. 3 to Feb. 7. The Association’s Nation of Lifesavers Mobile CPR Unit will be stationed at the Moscone Convention Center, where qualified trainers will provide walk-up instruction on the correct rate and depth of chest compressions. According to the American Heart Association, Hands-Only CPR can be equally effective as traditional CPR in the first few minutes of an emergency and involves calling 911 and pushing hard and fast in the center of the chest.
“When more people know CPR, more lives can be saved. Teaching fans CPR during the Super Bowl Experience transforms one of the world’s biggest sporting events into a powerful opportunity for public health impact,” said Nancy Brown, CEO of the American Heart Association. The initiative is part of the Association’s Nation of Lifesavers movement, which aims to double cardiac arrest survival rates by 2030. Currently, 9 out of 10 people who experience cardiac arrest outside a hospital die, often because they do not receive immediate CPR.
The collaboration also includes celebrating five students who won Super Bowl LX tickets through the Association’s in-school programs, Kids Heart Challenge and American Heart Challenge, where they learned Hands-Only CPR. Their schools are eligible for a $10,000 physical education makeover. Students and schools can enter to win tickets to Super Bowl LXI in Los Angeles in 2027.
Additionally, 32 NFL players have been named as the 2025 class of Nation of Lifesavers Player Ambassadors, including Damar Hamlin of the Buffalo Bills, to encourage fans to learn CPR. Since January 2023, the American Heart Association has worked with over half of NFL teams to educate players, staff, and fans on Hands-Only CPR and Heartsaver CPR AED training. The Mobile CPR Unit has appeared at previous Super Bowl events, the NFL Draft, and will be at the 2026 NFL Draft in Pittsburgh.
The American Heart Association urges everyone to take 90 seconds to learn Hands-Only CPR at heart.org/nation. With nearly 3 out of 4 cardiac arrests occurring at home, knowing CPR can double or triple a person’s chance of survival, especially when performed immediately. The Association’s CPR guidelines are based on the latest resuscitation science, and this initiative aims to ensure more people are prepared to act in a cardiac emergency.
